Cultivating Joy Through Gratitude

The key to cultivating joy is found in a consistent rhythm of gratitude.

REVIEW: Gratitude isn’t a feeling; it is a choice.

  • ‭‭‭‭READ: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
  • DISCUSS: What makes choosing gratitude difficult in your current season of life, and what would help you choose to be grateful?

REVIEW: Fix your eyes on the Giver and His Gift.

  • READ: James 1:17 “Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.”
  • ‭‭DISCUSS: How have you seen God’s goodness in your life recently?

REVIEW: Consume wisely.

  • READ: Philippians 4:8 “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
  • DISCUSS: Is there anything that you “consume,” or take in, on a regular basis that may be inhibiting your gratitude?

REVIEW: Express your gratitude.

  • READ: Psalm 95:2 “Let us come to him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to him.”
  • ‭‭DISCUSS: Express gratitude for your group. Take a moment to share encouragement and thanksgiving together!

  ASK:

What else did you get from this week's sermon? What actions or next steps can you take to apply it to your life?

  PRAY:

For a grateful perspective on life and the resolve to maintain that perspective even in moments of difficulty.
