We often fix our eyes on what’s right in front of us—our problems, our pain, our past. But when we behold Jesus for who He truly is. So—what are you beholding?
REVIEW: When we behold the glory of Jesus, it gives us hope.
- READ: Matthew 17:1-2 — “After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John and led them up on a high mountain by themselves. He was transfigured in front of them, and his face shone like the sun. His clothes became as white as the light.”
- DISCUSS: What do you imagine the disciples were feeling as they saw Jesus in glory? When have you had a moment where God helped you see Him more clearly in your life?
REVIEW: We become what we behold.
- READ: 2 Corinthians 3:18 — “We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit.”
- DISCUSS: What are you currently fixing your eyes on day to day? How can you practice beholding Jesus in your everyday life—at home, at work, or in worship?
REVIEW: We must see everything in our lives through Jesus, not just see Jesus through our circumstances.
- READ: 2 Peter 1:16-19 (CSB) — “For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; instead, we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased!” We ourselves heard this voice when it came from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain. We also have the prophetic word strongly confirmed, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.”
- DISCUSS: What does it look like to let Jesus define your circumstances instead of letting your circumstances define your view of Jesus? Where do you need to shift your gaze this week?
ASK:
What else did you get from this week's sermon? What actions or next steps can you take to apply it to your life?
PRAY:
Jesus, we confess that we are easily distracted. We often behold everything but You. But You are the radiance of God’s glory, full of grace and truth. Help us lift our eyes. Help us see You for who You truly are—not just through the lens of our pain or situation, but through Your Word and Your Spirit. Transform us as we behold You. Shape our minds, stir our hearts, and anchor our hope in You. In Your name, Amen.
INVITATION TO RESPOND:
This week, take one intentional step to behold Jesus in your everyday life:
- Shift Your Gaze: What are you looking at most right now? Name it—and ask God to help you see Jesus more clearly than your circumstances.
- Open the Word: Read one passage a day that reveals the character of Christ. Let His glory renew your mind.
- Notice His Glory: Take a walk and notice the beauty of creation. Pause and thank Him for reflecting His glory in what He’s made.
- Worship Fully: Join Sunday worship with one goal: to see Jesus. Let your focus be on who He is.
- Reflect on His Glory: Write down a moment in your life where God showed up and reminded you who He is. Let His past faithfulness stir fresh hope.
Jesus doesn't just want to be seen—He wants to be beheld. What are you looking at?
