Elijah: The Valley of Discouragement

God strengthens and leads us through discouragement.

REVIEW: God tells Elijah to take care of his body.

  • ‭‭‭‭READ: 1 Corinthians 6:19 “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself…”
  • DISCUSS: Everyone has things they’d like to change physically, but what is one thing you could begin doing to truly care for your physical health?

REVIEW: God invited Elijah to meet with him.

  • READ: Matthew 11:28 “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
  • ‭‭DISCUSS: What are you currently doing that makes you feel close to God? If you do not feel close to God, how could you begin to make time for connecting with Him?

REVIEW: God gave Elijah a new assignment.

  • READ: Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
  • ‭‭DISCUSS: How does serving others help connect us with God? Share a past experience of seeing God while serving others, if you can think of one.

REVIEW: God gave Elijah a new friend.

  • READ: Ecclesiastes 4:12 “A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”
  • ‭‭DISCUSS: How can your group support and pray for you this week? 

  ASK:

What else did you get from this week's sermon? What actions or next steps can you take to apply it to your life?

  PRAY:

For an awareness of God’s presence and guidance during discouraging times, and for the courage to take steps toward him and the life he promises.
