We all hunger for something—comfort, control, success, security. But Jesus offers us more than temporary satisfaction—He offers us life. The question is: will we come to Him for who He is or just for what He can do?
REVIEW: Are we hungry for Jesus—or is our comfort enough?
- READ: John 6:26-27 — “Jesus replied, ‘I tell you the truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs. But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you.’”
- DISCUSS: Why did you originally come to Jesus? How can we guard against only turning to Him in crisis and start seeking Him for who He truly is?
REVIEW: Are we hungry for justice—or is our comfort enough?
- READ: Luke 4:18-19 —“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind,to set free the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
- DISCUSS: In what ways are you tempted to stay comfortable rather than engage in the needs around you? What does it look like to reflect God’s heart for justice in your daily life?
REVIEW: Are we hungry for God’s Kingdom—or is our comfort enough?
- READ: Matthew 17:20 — “Because of your little faith,” he told them. “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
- DISCUSS: What is one area where you sense God is inviting you to trust Him more deeply? What might stepping out in faith look like this week?
ASK:
What else did you get from this week's sermon? What actions or next steps can you take to apply it to your life?
PRAY:
Jesus, we confess that we are often too easily satisfied by comfort, routine, or control. But You offer us something better—Your very presence and Your Kingdom. Awaken our hunger for You. Give us the courage to step out in faith, to pursue justice, and to long for Your rule in our hearts. We want to want You more than anything else. Teach us to trust You, to walk with You, and to become like You. In Your name, Amen.
INVITATION TO RESPOND:
This week, take one intentional step toward hungering more for Jesus:
- Seek Him First: Ask yourself: Am I seeking Jesus for who He is or just for what He can do for me?
- Open Your Eyes: Who around you is hurting or in need? Ask God to help you see people the way He sees them.
- Step Out in Faith: What is one way you can say “yes” to Jesus, even if it feels risky or uncomfortable?
- Write It Down: Reflect on the moments Jesus has met you in the past. Let His faithfulness build your faith today.
- Refuse to Settle: Don’t be content with spiritual snacks when Jesus offers you a feast. Let your hunger draw you closer to Him.
Jesus doesn’t just want to fill your stomach—He wants to fill your soul. What are you hungry for?
