A prayer filled faith is a powerful faith because prayer is faith-filled communion with God. Oftentimes the power we display is dependent on our relationship and communion with “The One” who holds the power in His hands.
Read: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18... "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
DISCUSS:
Where in your life do you see the effects of a prayer life or the lack thereof? What has it produced?
READ: Matthew 6:9-13... “Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.”
DISCUSS:
How can we keep ourselves from “performing Jesus” instead of living in relationship with Him?
READ: James 5:16... “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”
DISCUSS:
Where have you lacked honesty in your relationship with Jesus and the struggles or challenges that have hindered you? What will you do to break free?
What else from this week’s message was particularly memorable?
Jesus, give us truth in our prayer lives. Help us to recognize the areas in our life where we have allowed performance over relationship. Teach us to surrender in truth, help us to grow in faith and communion with you. Grow in us a passionate desire for prayer and freedom. In Your name we pray, Amen.
This week challenge yourself to truth in your prayer life. You can do this by opening genuine conversation with Jesus in your daily prayer life by starting with 15 minutes of truth every day.
Faith: It Requires Immense Faith to have a prayer Life, so start with one moment of trust each day. You can do this by starting with trusting God in prayer one moment and one day at a time.
Relationship: Relationship is having constant communion. This is done through consistent conversation and listening beyond wants and needs. Take the time to practice praying and listening for 15 minutes each day.
Confrontation: Deal with the areas in your life that you see are more about performance than authenticity. Set aside prayer time to allow God to confront you as well as confronting yourself through prayer. Not to condemn but to grow in Him.
Confession: Find a safe space and decide to be open and honest about the challenges that have hindered, hurt, or harmed you in the past as well as the present.
Freedom: Partner with a community of people that help you to grow in your freedom and not live in your past.
Radically honest living isn’t a moment, it’s a lifestyle and invitation in our prayer life.
