Often, the best way to see forward is to look back. When we remember what God has already done, we’re reminded that He is with us, He is faithful, and we can trust Him with what’s next.

REVIEW: It is easier to forget than to remember.

READ: Deuteronomy 8:11
“But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today.”

DISCUSS: What has God brought you through that you might be tempted to forget when life gets difficult?

REVIEW: Remembering is a part of every spiritual practice.

READ: Psalm 77:11-12
“But then I recall all you have done, O Lord; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago. They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works.”

DISCUSS: What helps you remember what God has done, and how can you make more room for that in your daily life?

REVIEW: What we remember determines who we become.

READ: Hebrews 12:2
“We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”

DISCUSS: What has your attention right now, and are your circumstances shaping your focus more than Jesus? How has it affected who you are?

REVIEW: Your memorial builds the faith of those who follow.

READ: Joshua 4:21-24
“Then Joshua said to the Israelites, “In the future your children will ask, ‘What do these stones mean?’ Then you can tell them, ‘This is where the Israelites crossed the Jordan on dry ground…”

DISCUSS: What do you want the people who come after you to know about God's faithfulness, and what can you do now to help them remember?

ASK

What are you praying for right now, and what would change if you truly remembered that God is faithful, present, and trustworthy?

PRAY

Jesus, help us remember Your faithfulness when we are afraid, uncertain, or discouraged. Help us look back and see where You have been present, and give us faith to trust You with what comes next. Help us keep our eyes on You and live in a way that points others to Your faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

INVITATION TO RESPOND

The invitation this week is to remember. When you remember what God has already done, you can step into what He is doing next with greater faith. Here are five ways you can respond this week:

  • Remember: Write down three moments when God has been faithful to you.
  • Practice: Choose one spiritual practice that helps you intentionally remember God—prayer, Scripture, worship, communion, fasting, or giving.
  • Fix Your Eyes: Identify what has been consuming your attention and intentionally turn your focus back to Jesus.
  • Tell the Story: Share one story of God's faithfulness with someone who needs encouragement.
  • Build Faith: Create a memorial or reminder that will help others remember God's faithfulness and trust Him with their future.

Look back. Remember what God has done. Then step forward in faith. God is with you, He is faithful, and He can be trusted. Remember!
