Following Jesus is more than believing the right things or doing the right things. God wants to restore what sin has put out of order and lead us into a life that is rooted, fruitful, and abundant.

REVIEW: A Promise

READ: Matthew 7:11
“So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him."

DISCUSS: When you truly believe that God is good and wants what is best for you, how does that change the way you trust Him when His path is different from the one you would choose?

REVIEW: Two Paths

READ: Psalm 1:1-2
“Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.”

DISCUSS: What are some of the voices, habits, or influences that are shaping the person you are becoming, and what would it look like to intentionally make room for God to shape you instead?

REVIEW: The Product

READ: Psalm 1:3
“They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”

DISCUSS: When life becomes difficult, what kind of person do you want to be—and what needs to become stronger in your life now so that you can respond that way when the pressure comes?

ASK

What from this lesson challenged you, encouraged you, or changed the way you think about why your life may feel out of order?

PRAY

Father, thank You for being good and for wanting us to flourish. Help us follow Jesus and allow Him to form who we are becoming. Help us tend to our spiritual roots and remain connected to You. Make us rooted, nourished, fruitful, and resilient in every season. Give us patience to trust You and give You enough time to grow something in us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

INVITATION TO RESPOND

Following Jesus means allowing Him to restore what is out of order and form us into the people He created us to be. Here are some practical steps for this week:

  • Get Planted: Be here for the next six weeks. Join a group. Join a team. Get planted in the house of the Lord.
  • Tend to the Roots: Spend the first 15 minutes of your day with God. Pray, read Scripture, and ask Jesus, “What do You want to form in me today?”
  • Choose Your Path: Pay attention to what is shaping you. Identify one voice, habit, or influence that is pulling you away from Jesus and intentionally replace it with something that draws you toward Him.
  • Focus on Formation: Find one Scripture to meditate on daily. Read it in the morning, think about it throughout the day, and ask, “What would it look like to live this out today?”
  • Give God Enough Time: Keep practicing these things even when you don't see immediate results. Stay rooted, stay connected, and trust God to produce the fruit in His timing.

Tend to the roots, follow Jesus, and give God enough time to grow something.
